Filing insurance claims after a storm can be time-consuming and intimidating. And in some cases, homeowners find themselves victimized twice: first by the storm, and then by an unfair insurance settlement. But this doesn’t have to be the case, especially when you work with a company that’s familiar with the insurance claims process.

R4 Roofing is a leading expert in the insurance restoration process. Our staff would love to help you with your insurance claim. If you suspect wind or hail damage from a recent storm, call R4 Roofing along with your insurance carrier’s claims office to get your claim started.

For your convenience, we’ve provided the numbers to most of the larger insurance companies’ claims offices. Many agents are not responsible or trained for the insurance claims aspect of your policy. Your first call should always be to the claims office after a roof inspector evaluates the roof for damage. We will handle this for you.

We can help you contact your insurance where your claim handler will assign a claims adjuster and give you a claim number. This number will be very important. Write it down. It may take several days to get the name and number of your insurance claims adjuster. Make sure to get their cell number when they call to schedule an inspection.

Once you have all the info, call your R4 Roofing representative to give them the adjuster’s name, contact information and appointment time. Your insurer may ask you to get three estimates. You can help them in getting the lowest price, giving them the savings and giving you a more affordable roof.

We will negotiate with your insurance company for a fair re-roof settlement. You will get the highest-quality roof system with R4 Roofing.

Let your insurance claims adjuster know your roofing contractor will be at the meeting. We think it‘s crucial that our representative is there for the inspection to serve as your advocate. Remember: your insurer appreciates your business, but they want to keep costs down.

During the inspection meeting, roof measurements will be taken, and damage will be assessed. Whenever possible, your R4 Roofing representative will provide an engineered report using satellite imaging detailing your roof measurements.

We’ll do our job well, so you can go to yours with confidence you’ll have expert representation during the initial inspection.

Once they’ve assessed the damages, your insurance adjuster will provide a claim summary detailing the scope of repairs or replacement. R4 Roofing uses the same pricing software — Xactimate — as most insurance carriers, so the price per unit for your roof replacement should be the same.

Still, we’ll compare the adjuster’s claim summary to our own to make sure nothing has been omitted from the scope of the project. If we find a discrepancy, our insurance liaison will negotiate with your insurance carrier on your behalf. In many cases, this is simply a process of sending them our estimate and calling them to discuss the differences.

Some insurance companies may not want to fund key components of your roof and a call from you would be helpful. In those cases, we will discuss our options and develop the best plan for your claim, and in some cases, bring in our own adjusters with whom we’ve developed relationships to help us fight for your best coverage possible.

Once negotiations are done, the insurance company will release a supplemental check to cover the additional amount determined during our discussions with them.

You should receive the initial check around the same time as the claim summary. This check may have your mortgage company’s name on it, in which case you’ll need to call them to learn how to get their endorsement. Each company has specific directions and may require additional paperwork, so don’t be surprised if this process takes several days. The same procedure applies to a supplemental check. Those funds would be payable toward the new negotiated roof replacement total.

Initial insurance claims checks can often seem small compared to the full amount of the roof. There are two reasons for this: your deductible and depreciation.

Most homeowners choose replacement cost coverage policies over actual cost value policies. If you have a replacement cost policy, we will recover the depreciation withheld by the insurance company after work has been completed.

The deductible with the portion withheld by the insurance company that will not be paid out at any time. It is your copay which you will pay to R4 Roofing The full cost of your roof replacement is the sum of the first insurance check, your deductible, the amount of depreciation and any supplements.

Once the first insurance check, deductible and insurance loss statement are received we will begin installing your roof.

Once the roof is installed, our office will get in touch the insurance company to let them know work is complete and ask for any recoverable depreciation funds.

Your insurer will likely call you to confirm the work has concluded before releasing the final check. If a supplement was negotiated that may be included in the final check along with the depreciation. Our office will be happy to follow up and confirm receipt of this documentation to ensure timely processing.

Mortgage companies may require their own inspection before endorsing and releasing depreciation to you. We do not handle this detail, so be sure to ask your mortgage company about this when you first contact them.

Beware: if you’ve been approached by a contractor with a lower bid than the insurance loss statement, your insurer will not allow you to keep the savings.

Either you or your contractor has to provide a false invoice to the insurance carrier to recover the depreciation. But if a contractor presents this illegal savings offer to you, you may be in danger of committing insurance fraud.

Once you’ve received your final insurance check and gotten mortgage company endorsements, we will collect the final amount due for the roof. As a courtesy to our clients, we provide a 30-day grace period from installation to make the final payment on the depreciated amount.
